Core lifter is one part of core sample breaking operation. Core lifter is used together core barrel. Core lifter has a tapered shape, mates to the tapered socket of core lifter case. When the inner-tube is full of core sample, the drill string if lifted off the bottom of the hole, the core sample will be broken by the core lifter grip function.

Standard core lifters are made of high-quality alloy steel and are heat treated to increase strength, toughness and wear life.

Diamond-coated core lifters add a thin composite diamond-coating (CDC) of a hard metal alloy impregnated with synthetic micro diamonds. The diamond coating process provides superior wear resistance. The diamond coated core lifter has longer life as compared to a standard core lifter.
